In the deionized water system tap water is heated to 72 degrees Fahrenheit and passed through a pre-filtering system consisting of  sediment and carbon filters each of 25 micron and then through a filter of water softener or chloramines. The choice of filter type will depend upon the water quality and treatment method carried out already. Next a 5 micron filter which is the main DI system removes particulates. Any organics contained in the water is removed by a carbon filter. Any more contaminants are removed by a reverse osmosis filter and the remaining dissolved minerals by a mixed bed resin filter. Larger de-ionized water systems are more complicated.
